History


About the history of Skarbek University it should be spoken from 1993 when the idea of transforming International School of Commerce Ltd. into academic institution appeared. Thus there International School of Commerce Ltd. established strong academic relations with institutions from Poland and abroad, and especially with academics from Institute of Economic Sciences of Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw School of Economics from Poland, Chicago University from the United States, Erasmus University Rotterdam from the Netherlands and Durham University from Great Britain.

In 1994 International School of Commerce Ltd. Won the grant TESSA-PHARE (Trainings and Education in the Strategic Important Fields). In result studies Master of Business Administration were opened run by the best lecturers of Durham University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Graduate Business School the Chicago University and Polish best specialists. These studies appeared to be a centre attracting best Polish and foreign professors of economics, finance and marketing.

In result of above facts there was established Graduate School of Business Economics in Warsaw. The primary composition of its Senate included academic staff creating MBA at International School of Commerce Ltd., also foreign professors.

At present Skarbek University cooperates with more than 50 universities all over the world. Practically every week some classes at Skarbek University are held by the foreign professors. To make our students benefit more from this opportunity they are provided with various language classes with modern teaching techniques. Knowledge of foreign languages significantly improve the position of our graduates on labour market. The effect of the international cooperation of Skarbek University are also international programmes held in English including joint degree studies with Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Skarbek University educates also many foreign students – there are around 300 students from 20 different countries. According to OECD database the average percentage for the Polish universities of foreign students is equal 0,4%. For SU the rate is 4% so exceeding the average ten times!

Skarbek University is one of the best private universities in Poland. Its position is confirmed by universities’ rankings as well as by recognition in the acknowledge society. Planning its development the University takes the examples from the best European and American universities.

Our priority is to make our students able to face new challenges on the market and to successfully manage in the twentieth first century economy. Thus we start the education from the theory, coming gradually to the practical approach giving the students tools for correct reading and interoperating of the economic situations. In the future they are supposed to make the right business decisions on this basis.
